Blue Jays are not actually blue…Each feather has a thin lay of cells that absorb all wavelengths of color except blue. Thus, blue is the only color reflected to our eyes.
This idyllic scene was made using vitreous enamel (pulverized glass) that was applied by hand, using a delicate sprinkling method layered over solid copper and then kiln-fired. It has a metal circular hook for hanging.
