Designed collaboratively by our ceramic students with key engineering leadership from Florence ’25, this year’s collection celebrates Berea’s 8th Great Commitment to Appalachia.
Our students created stamps representative of traditional quilt patterns and heirloom varieties of regional fruits and vegetables, which adorn each piece in the collection. The collection also provided an opportunity to refine our students’ slab-building techniques, and the construction of each piece relies on the use of student-made press molds.
To complete the process, our students mixed two distinct glazes using formulas that allowed the glaze to highlight the stamps as opposed to covering them as many glazes would. Each piece is handmade so the size may vary slightly.
